Just half-way before Lake Nakuru National Park lies Lake Naivasha , one of the eight lakes in the Great Rift Valley in Kenya . The lake has been described as a "bewilderment of birds", where more then 340 bird species can be spotted in a single visit. It is dominated 'by the shadow of Mt. Longonot 2,777 metres (9,109 feet) an extinct volcano which has been recently (1983) declared a national park (52 sq. kms) and whose fantastic views can be obtained from the escarpment on the scenic highway to the region.
Between Mt. Longonot and Lake Naivasha stands the Hell's Gate with rock climbs, and a sky-throbbing Fischer's tower. The area has also been declared a national park (68 sq. kms), for the protection of the rarest of Kenya 's vulture population -the Lammergeyer which nest& on the rock cliffs. Other wildlife species -buffalo, zebra, eland, gazelles and birds abound in the park.
The Naivasha yellow-barked acacia trees dominate the flora attraction.
Adventure trekking, game watching trips, sailing, skiing and fishing are some of the activities organized for visitors' recreation.
