Ten kilometers south-west of Nairobi City Centre. The first National Park to be established in East Africa in 1946. It is made up of rolling grassland plains, a forest and part of the Athi-River. It has a large stock of seasonal migratory animals which migrate southwards through Kitengela corridor. All the big-five, Leopards, Lion, Buffalo and Rhino, except the elephant are represented. Its large prides of black-manned lions and cheetah form the main attraction.

The open savanna is dominated by large herds of giraffe, zebra, buffalo, Coke's hartebeest, eland, Grant's and Thomson's gazelles, wildebeest, and impala. Ostrich, secretary birds, and Kori bustard dominate the bird assembly. A self-guided nature trail along the Athi-River riverine forest provides the visitors with an opportunity to watch hippos, crocodiles, monkeys and a great variety of birds.

The -park's animal orphanage at the main gate is a park within a park. It offers a spectacle of African big cats and contains other animals’ riot indigenous to Kenya : sometimes those which have been donated to Kenya by other countries.
